This review is part of a rafflecopter giveaway: Goes well with Grilled chicken Caesar salad and mango iced tea, followed by a froufrou cupcake. In short, Resisting the Rancher is a fantastic way to spend an afternoon, and I’d happily dip my toes in author Snopek’s pond again – easy to do since this novel is part of a series. I also enjoyed the frenetic pace the author created by setting everything against the backdrop of a family wedding – what better event than that to bring out all the quirks and dramas that linger within relationships of all kinds? Main character Celia is likeable – and I’m not just saying that because I work in dog rescue – smart, and resourceful, and love-interest Jonah is equally substantial. Her characters were three-dimensional and their interaction was both interesting and plausible. Roxanne Snopek’s Resisting the Rancher was an excellent choice for just such an escape. That said, every once in a while, it’s nice to pick up something that’s sexy and romantic and just escape into a piece of fiction. They’re just not my typical cup of literary tea. There’s nothing wrong with them, and studies have been done proving that women (in particular) who read them tend to have better, more fulfilling sex lives than women who do not. I’m not really a fan of “formula” romances. Recently, the first three books sold to France. THREE RIVER RANCH made the Barnes & Noble Top Ten list, The Amazon Top 100 list and is now the foundation of a multi-book series. In 2012 she sold her first romance novel to Entangled Publishing. Authors P-T Book Talk Fiction Review mini-review Reader-Friendly Products Rob Thomas Thousand-Dollar Tan Line Veronica Mars Review: Resisting the Rancher, by Roxanne SnopekĬountry veterinarian Celia Gamble is in trouble. Goes well with: a double-scoop of ice cream on a sugar cone, eaten at the beach. I’m not sure if this novel counts as canon – though since it was co-written by series creator Rob Thomas, it totally should, but even if we take it as a slightly alternate universe, it’s worth the read, and it’s an excellent way for people, (like me) who binge-watched the entire series before the movie was released (I’d seen it before, but my husband hadn’t) to get their latest “fix.” Picking up where the Veronica Mars movie left off, this novel has everything I loved about the series and the film: Veronica’s personal brand of snark, the Neptune locals we know and love, and a mystery that wasn’t difficult to solve, but keeps us entertained, even so.įans of LoVe be warned: this novel takes place during Logan’s deployment, so don’t expect to see much of him.ĭo expect a few lovely (and some not-so-lovely) surprises, and a good amount of Dick Casablancas being, well, Dick.

I was so surprised that I wanted to make sure it wasn’t a fluke. On Hotspot Shield’s server in Australia (about 15,000km away), my speeds dropped by almost 90%, and the ping skyrocketed. Its speeds varied a lot and so did the availability of servers and features across platforms. While I was impressed with Hotspot Shield’s streaming capabilities, I was disappointed with its overall lack of consistency. Your final python code should look like this: from pyfirmata import Arduino, util Now turn the potentiometer and watch the LED come to life. The final lines of code are an else condition, which turns the LED off if the value is less than 0.05. The main body of code is a while True loop, which will read the current value of analogue pin 0, which is connected to the potentiometer, and store the value in a variable called value. We should create an object called it and then connect this to the Arduino, before then starting the thread. To read the analogue values from the Arduino we need to create a thread that will run and not interrupt the main code. ![]() We’ll start the code for this project In a new blank file, using the same lines to import and configure the pin being used on the Arduino. Please see the diagram below for more information on this.Īrduino Uno board connected to a potentiometer and LED light. We will add the potentiometer to the existing LED test circuit that we have just built and tested. We can use the value returned from the Arduino to control the speed at which the LED flashes. This will be an LED that flashes, but the interval between each flash is controlled via a potentiometer, an analogue electronic component –- something that the Raspberry Pi cannot ordinarily use without extra ADC (analog-to-digital conversion) boards. Sleep(0.2) Flashing LED Lights with Raspberry Pi and Arduino The final python script should look like this: from pyfirmata import Arduino, util Save the code and then run it from your editor (IDLE Run > Run Module/Thonny Run > Run Current Script) and after a few seconds the LED connected to the Arduino will flash, proving that we have a working connection. Then we sleep for 0.2 seconds, before turning the pin off and sleeping once more. Note that we use the variable led to identify the pin. We will call the object board, with a class to control the pin digitally (0,1) and then write 1 to the pin to turn it on. Inside of a while True loop, we can write the code that will turn the LED on and off every 0.2 seconds. You create it by adding the line: led = 12 board = Arduino('/dev/ttyUSB0')Ī variable called led is used to store the Arduino pin number. ![]() For this, we shall need to use the USB device information from dmesg. Galactic glaziers must have done well out of it. Smash hit: every single point scored in Shufflepuck Cafe was emphasised by the violent shattering of a protective pane. But to me, it's as evocative of Mos Eisley as a mint-condition Greedo action figure or poor Ponda Baba's severed arm. If there's a bright centre to the officially licensed universe, Shufflepuck Cafe would probably be on the planet that it's farthest from. What is weird, though, is that one of the games I most associate with Star Wars has no real connection to the franchise at all. Games have emphatically played their part, with dozens of beloved titles that have either simulated iconic moments from the films - with DICE's Battlefront resetting that particular bar extraordinarily high - or grafted their own dense mythologies onto the existing Lucas lore. Of course, this is a universe that has always been aggressively expanding in one way or another, through avalanches of merchandising both covetable and tacky, plus novels, comics and other ancillary spin-offs. The two-pronged assault of Star Wars Battlefront and The Force Awakens means that, willingly or not, we're all reliving memories of George Lucas' space saga: what it meant to us when we first experienced it, what it means to us now and what it might mean moving forward if Disney pursue their rather Imperial-sounding aim of putting out a new Star Wars movie every year until our planet goes the way of Alderaan. ![]() ![]() Right now, certain times seem not so long ago and certain galaxies not all that far, far away. |
